Strange wire retainer feeling, while retainer is still in place: what can it be?

I've had braces a long time ago, and since 10 years I'm wearing a wire retainer behind my teeth to keep everything in place. In those years I never really had problems.

About 3 weeks ago however, I've bitten on something hard, and immediately felt that there was something wrong. When I slide my tongue over the back of my teeth, on 3 specific teeth the tension of the wire seems to be different. It's an unpleasant feeling like the teeth are loose, and I was worried there was something wrong with the wire retainer.

I've visited 3 separate orthodontists since then (just to be sure), who all checked the wire and told me it was fine and still attached on all places. However none of them could really explain the weird feeling I was having, and told me if will probably go away.

They are right that after 3 weeks the unpleasant feeling has become less, although I can still feel it (so it will take another 2 weeks to disappear I guess). So I am very curious, what can have happened that has given my teeth such a shocker that I'm still feeling it after all that time? And could it be potentially dangerous even though the wire retainer is still in place?
